Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Customers Experience Theft of Funds After Security Breach
Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU) confirmed that they suffered a security breach impacting approximately 400 customers. Patrons noticed fraudulent activity on their accounts over the holiday weekend. Several unauthorized ATM withdrawals were observed at ATM locations throughout the local area, including PNC Bank, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America in Cherry Hill, NJ. The debit cards used in the illicit transactions are assessed to have been cloned versions using stolen customer information. At this time, the security breach has only affected accounts that were established at the PFCU located at Standwood Street and Roosevelt Boulevard in Philadelphia. The NJCCIC advises PFCU customers to monitor accounts and report fraudulent transactions directly to PFCU and consider credit profile monitoring or freezing. For further information on mitigation and reporting, users may review the Federal Trade Commission website.
