Threat Actors May Capitalize on Las Vegas Tragedy

The Department of Homeland Security/United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team released an advisory warning users to be aware of possible malicious cyber activity related to the tragic event that took place in Las Vegas this past week. Threat actors may capitalize on the public’s interest in this high-profile incident and send tragedy-related phishing emails containing malicious content or they may attempt to commit financial fraud through charity scams. The NJCCIC recommends all users review the US-CERT advisory, be wary of social media pleas, calls, texts, and door-to-door solicitations related to this tragic event and verify the legitimacy of donation websites by visiting the FTC’s Charity Giving site.
